War on Pink Floyd: strong accusations of David Gilmour and his wife against Roger Waters

Although Pink Floyd was one of the most influential bands, after the dissolution that happened in 1985, some of the members that made up the group began their solo careers. However, Roger Waters has been in the public eye recently as, after making some statements about the State of Israel, he was branded by many online users as an anti-Semite.

And, On this occasion, David Gilmour and his wife Polly Samson broke the silence and supported these accusations against the former member of the band that has hits like Another Brick in the Wall or Wish You Were Here.

Through her Twitter account, the former Pink Floyd guitarist's partner, wrote on February 6, 2023:

“Sadly @rogerwaters you are anti-Semitic to your rotten core. Also an apologist for Putin and a liar, thief, hypocrite, tax evader, lip-syncer, misogynist, sick with envy, megalomaniac. Enough nonsense.”, it read.

Reactions quickly followed suit and some Internet users agreed with what was published by the writer.

“I just read your interview with the German newspaper. She has completely lost it. To think that a man whose father died fighting the fascists would spend his old years as a spokesman for the fascists! It's a depressing spectacle,” posted one netizen.

But that wasn't all, as David Gilmour quoted his wife's tweet and emphatically agreed with her:

“Every word demonstrably true”, he posted from his official Twitter account.

What Roger Waters responded to

Through his Instagram , Roger Waters issued a statement about the words that Samson made against him and pointed out that said accusations were not true.

Although several of Waters's fans supported him, others agreed that his recent statements in the media left a lot to be desired.

“I have been a Roger Waters fan for many years, and I am pro-Palestinian to the core, but… His last few interviews have been very unfortunate and the fact that he's a megalomaniac and lip-syncing now, sadly. , two undeniable facts”, reads one of the comments.

What have been the controversial opinions of Roger Waters

Apparently, Polly Samson's annoyance would have been triggered after the interview that Roger Waters gave to a German media outlet called the Berliner Zeitung.

In the interview, Waters would make some controversial comments about Russia's invasion of Ukraine and when asked about an occasion in which he equated the State of Israel to Nazi Germany, the singer mentioned:

“Yeah, sure. The Israelis are committing genocide. Just like Britain did during our colonial period, by the way. The British committed genocide against the indigenous peoples of North America, for example. So did the Dutch, the Spanish, the Portuguese and even the Germans in their colonies. They were all part of the injustice of the colonial era. And we British also murder and loot in India, South East Asia, China….We believed ourselves to be inherently superior to indigenous peoples, just as the Israelis do in Palestinea. Well, we weren't and neither are Israeli Jews.”

Furthermore, when Waters was questioned that Pink Floyd recently recorded a song after 30 years with Ukrainian musician Andrij Chlywnjuk, the former member of the band, was disappointed by this situation.

“I've seen the video and I'm not surprised , but I find it very, very sad. It is so strange to me, this action is so devoid of humanity. It encourages the continuation of the war. Pink Floyd is a name I used to be associated with. That was a big time in my life, a big deal. To associate that name now with something like this… proxy war makes me sad,” he said, adding:

“I mean, they haven't set out to demand: '¡¡ Stop the war, stop the slaughter, gather our leaders together to talk!'It's just this contentless waving of the blue and yellow flag. I wrote in one of my letters to the Ukrainian teenager Alina: I will not raise a flag in this conflict, not a Ukrainian flag, not a Russian flag, not an American flag.”
