VW ID.Buzz Coming Soon to the US Market/VW
Seven years after its launch, the 2025 VW ID.Buzz will finally hit US roads this year. Admittedly, it was not without its nuances.
While the original VW Type 2 minibus was an affordable small utilitarian vehicle embraced by the youth counterculture, many of those young people are now well-to-do retirees . If they want to return to their youth without leaving the comfort of a modern electric car, Volkswagen will be happy to charge them $61,495 for an electric car with a range of up to 234 miles (376 kilometers), writes Drive.
The VW ID.Buzz will be available with two drivetrain configurations, one offering rear-wheel drive and the other four-wheel drive. Range is the same for both: 234 miles for RWD and 231 miles for AWD. Only the first option is available for the base “Pro S” trim, whose MSRP is $59,995 plus $1,550 shipping. For your money, you get leatherette seats and a wood-grain instrument panel, just like a 2000s Chrysler. Fortunately, the rest of the standard equipment pales in comparison.
The US model of the ID.Buzz will come with a second-row bench, allowing seven passengers to sit in three rows. The second and third rows will have standard tinted side glass, tri-zone climate control, a nine-speaker audio system and eight USB ports installed throughout the cabin. All doors open without a key, and the seats in the second row are heated. Up front, the driver benefits from a digital instrument cluster, heated and memory-adjustable door mirrors, and an auto-dimming rearview mirror.
The steering wheel is also heated, though unfortunately still uses VW's hated haptic control system. But the disappointment will be smoothed out by heated front seats, a massage function, power adjustment and memory settings. A 12.9-inch touchscreen controls the infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and the center console 'buzz box' is removable. Comes complete with 20-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights and taillights, and heated washer nozzles for improved visibility in cold weather.
To upgrade to AWD, must choose the Pro S Plus trim on $65,045, and then add another $4,500 for a total of $69,545. This trim adds a head-up display, a 14-speaker Harman Kardon audio system, and optional second-row captain's chairs for RWD models. These are standard on the AWD version, as is a heated windshield. The Pro S Plus also adds a power tailgate and sunroof, a manually-retractable towbar (rating TBA), and a wider palette of interior and exterior colors. A panoramic smart glass roof is available starting at $1,495.
Finally, customers will be able to order the 1st Edition model, which is more or less a refined version of the Pro S Plus with some exclusive options. It gets unique wheels, a distinctive emblem and a set of roof rails. However, those who want the RWD model will not have access to the captain's chair, and vice versa for AWD customers. It will cost even more, starting at $67,045 for RWD and $71,545 for AWD.
All in all, the 2025 VW ID.Buzz seems about as far from its humble Type 2 roots as it could get. would be But like all automakers, VW isn't flying blind; he has the data to show that the profits lie in the $60,000 range and up, not on us young people with our shallow pockets. Money is also the reason that the VW California van (and the ID.Buzz version) is pretty much shut out of the US market – no one is willing to pay for it. Or at least not enough to make a profit.
