VW: Hybrid Golf explodes and burns out completely
Just two weeks old, the Golf burned out completely. As if by a miracle, however, the inmates were largely uninjured, according to the fire service.
Your emergency call came in shortly after 10 p.m. on Saturday. The extinguishing work turned out to be difficult, as a fire department spokesman reported to news38.de.
On the one hand, several hydrants were frozen due to the icy weather conditions. At temperatures in the double-digit minus range, the extinguishing water on the street immediately froze, so that it was quickly as smooth as a mirror and several emergency services fell.

The biggest challenge, however, was getting the fire on the vehicle under control. Because the batteries of the Golf hybrid flared up again and again during the extinguishing attempts. According to the fire brigade, a short circuit in the battery could have been the reason for the explosion.

The Gulf finally burned out completely and had to be removed by a special tow truck in a watertight container. Because batteries can react for up to five days, the container can be flooded if necessary, explains the fire department spokesman.
In this case, however, this is no longer necessary because the batteries have already cooled down due to the cold temperatures.
