Vladimir Putin decided to explain why he does not recommend domestic artists to resume concert activities amid a pandemic. A corresponding dispute arose between the president and Valery Gergiev, who was at the head of the Mariinsky Theater.
The discussion arose back in June, when Putin met with representatives of the cultural sphere. Gergiev hinted that it was time to gradually resume performances in theaters and directly by artists. At the same time, the head of state considers the risk unjustified, not understanding why it is needed. It is important for athletes and dancers to resume training so as not to lose their qualifications, while it is better for the artists to postpone in order to maintain their own health, because if the lungs are damaged by 75-80%, singing will be problematic.
The President does not deny that against the backdrop of the outbreak of the coronavirus and related restrictive measures, representatives of the cultural sector have lost part of their income. However, he considers it more reasonable to be patient than to “bite your elbows” and regret the haste. Putin is convinced that soon everything will return to normal.
