“Magic” technology is able to change the color of the back panel of the smartphone literally “on the fly”

Chinese smartphone tech giant Vivo has shared a video of a prototype smartphone capable of changing the color of the back. The technology behind the “magic” is called electrochromism, a phenomenon in which the color or opacity of a material (in this case glass) can change depending on voltage.
Similar technologies are now used in expensive windows, which simply become opaque, eliminating the need to use blinds, as well as in some electronic signs found at various events and technical exhibitions.
Vivo took this idea and applied it to a smartphone, allowing it to change the color of the back panel on the fly. A teaser posted on the Chinese social network Weibo showed a working prototype capable of only switching between silver and purple-blue.

There is no word yet on whether Vivo plans to bring this technology to market in a future phone.
The fact is that such a marketing ploy with a chameleon body may not “shoot”. A lot of smartphone owners put their handset in a case, which negates the whole idea of such a case – the “magic” will simply not be visible to outsiders and the wow effect will be useless.
Recall that earlier Vivo was the first to release a smartphone with a periscope. It's also worth recalling that Vivo was the first company to launch a smartphone with 10GB of RAM.
