Vinicius Junior he scored Real Madrid’s first goal against Liverpool in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League Quarter-Finals and thus a historic record for the Brazilian player.
With this, he became the first footballer born in the first decade of 2000 to score in this knockout phase of the most prestigious club-level tournament in Europe, according to data from OPTA.
Vinicius Jr. was born on July 12, 2000 and arrived at Real Madrid in 2018 from Flamengo of Brazil and with whom he has scored three goals in the Champions League, two of them in the current season against Shakhtar.
The South American player opened the account just at minute 27 in a heads-up with Alisson Becker for the partial 1-0 in a duel in which he went 2-0 in favor of the meringues at halftime.
For the second half, Mohamed Salah approached the Reds on the board and Vinicius Jr was present again for a double. Only Kylian Mbappé in April 2017 had scored a Champions League double in the Quarter-Finals, with 18; later did Vinicius Junior with 20 years and 268 days; Furthermore, the Madrid player became the youngest Brazilian to score more than one goal in the knockout phase.
The match was played at the Alfredo di Stéfano Stadium in Madrid, due to the fact that the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium is undergoing renovation works. In the current LaLiga season, Vinicius also has three annotations; next Saturday, Real Madrid will face FC Barcelona in El Clásico.
