“Vegetative state”: Neurosurgeon doubted that Michael Schumacher will be able to recover from injury

Seriously injured in 2013, former racer Michael Schumacher is unlikely to recover. The corresponding opinion was expressed by the neurosurgeon Erich Riederer.

The specialist agreed to assess the future of the race car driver for the documentary “Michael Schumacher: In Search of Truth”. Riederer has serious doubts that the 51-year-old Formula 1 star has a chance to return to the form he was in before the events of 2013. Moreover, his state of health will remain approximately the same as it is now. Riederer assessed Schumacher's condition as “vegetative”, allowing him to sit and perform some minor steps with someone else's help. It is highly likely that this is the maximum for the rider.

The neurosurgeon does not exclude that part of the blame for what happened to Schumacher lies with the doctors he came to after being injured. They hesitated for a long time with the measures, and as a result, the necessary operation was done only two hours later. The racer suffered brain damage when he fell unsuccessfully while skiing.
