The US military carried out airstrikes on several Islamic State (IS) camps in the Syrian desert this week, killing up to 35 militants from the group, US Central Command (CENTCOM) reported on Wednesday, October 30, Voice of America reports.
The command said that senior Islamic State leaders were targeted in Monday's strikes. The group itself has been designated a terrorist group by the United States.

The strikes are part of ongoing U.S. and allied efforts to degrade the operational capabilities of ISIS, with the goal of preventing future attacks against civilians, the United States, and its allies and partners in the region.
These are not the first U.S. strikes on ISIS camps in Syria this month. CENTCOM reported strikes on Oct. 11, which the command assessed as causing no civilian casualties.
