The United States of America has voiced proposals for reform of the United Nations Security Council.

US Representative to the UN Linda Thomas-Greenfield has announced proposals for reforming the UN Security Council.

According to her, the United States of America supports inclusive reform so that the UN Security Council has the ability to effectively and quickly respond to modern challenges.

In particular, the United States proposes creating two permanent seats without veto power on the UN Security Council for African countries and a new elected seat for small island developing states, the Voice of America reports.

However, the United States does not propose changing the number of countries that have veto power in the Security Council. Among them today are the United States, Great Britain, France, China and Russia.

When asked about removing from the Security Council states that violate the principles of the UN Charter, Linda Thomas-Greenfield replied that such a mechanism exists, but it is allegedly very difficult to implement.

At the same time, the United States of America intends, together with other states, to reform the Security Council and make certain changes to the UN Charter.

It is reported that negotiations regarding Security Council reforms may intensify in a few weeks during the UN General Assembly.
