New joint exercises involving hundreds of American and Filipino troops have concluded in the northern Philippines, generals from the two countries said.

The exercises became a test of the combat endurance of military personnel in conditions of grueling heat and changeable weather.

The exercise participants practiced repelling threats in the tropical jungle and on scattered Asian islands.

The exercise, which took place from June 1 to 10, ended with a ceremony in the north of the Philippines, reports  Associated Press.

The Biden administration is strengthening the arch of military alliances in the Indo-Pacific region to better counter China, including in the event of a possible confrontation over Taiwan and other trouble spots.

The move coincides with the Philippines' efforts to strengthen its territorial defense amid escalating disputes with Beijing in the South China Sea.
