Andrey Rublev will play against Daniil Medvedev in the US Open quarterfinals on September 9. Which of this pair will play in the semifinals of the tournament? – read our forecast.
Rublev will play again in the US Open quarterfinals. This is so far the best achievement of a Russian at the Grand Slam tournaments. On the way to the quarterfinals, Andrei managed to beat one of the most uncomfortable opponents for himself in the round, Matteo Berrettini. Having lost the first set, Rublev managed to seize the initiative in subsequent games and win (4-6, 6-3, 6-3, 6-3).
The opening matches at the US Open turned out to be calmer for Rublev. The Russian tennis player managed to complete all three matches played in three games. In the first round, Andrey confidently dealt with the Frenchman Jeremy Chardy (6-4, 6-4, 6-3).
In the second, he beat another representative of France, Gregoire Barrera (6-2, 6-4, 7-6), and in the third he scored a crushing victory over the Italian tennis player Salvatore Caruso (6-0, 6-4, 6-0).
Let’s be honest, Medvedev was lucky with the tournament grid. On the way to the quarterfinals of the competition, Daniil has not yet played with serious opponents. In the first round, the Russian confidently dealt with the profile dirt coat Federico Delbonis (6-1, 6-2, 6-4). In the second round the US Open did not experience any particular problems with Christopher O’Connell (6-3, 6-2, 6-4).
Then the Russian in a calm manner dealt with the young American Jeffrey Wolf (6-3, 6-3, 6-2) and beat Francis Tiafoe (6-4, 6-1, 6-0).
Recall that Medvedev is last year’s US Open finalist, and Daniil is sure to repeat that achievement. On the way to the final there are two matches left – the upcoming one against Rublev, and, most likely, the fight against Dominic Tim, who is the favorite in the quarterfinal pair with Alex De Minaur.
In personal meetings, Medvedev is leading with a score of 3-0.
In the last five matches, tennis players have won four wins.
09/20/19 Daniil Medvedev Andrey Rublev 20
08/17/19 Andrey Rublev Daniil Medvedev 0: 2
Medvedev is confidently leading in personal meetings with Rublev with a score of 3-0. It is noteworthy that for all three matches played, Daniel never lost a set to his opponent. Rublev, of course, has noticeably added in his game compared to last year, but we still believe that this will not be enough to qualify for victory in the match against the fifth racket of the world.
Rublev plays attacking tennis, trying to powerfully punch the ball, while Medvedev’s game is based on counterattacks. Daniil plays more from the opponent, tries to destroy the game of his opponent, and in previous games against Rublev he did it well.
Our prediction is Medvedev’s victory with a handicap (-4.5) of the game for a coefficient of 1.84 in BC Vinline.
