The US military destroyed a Houthi anti-ship missile in the Gulf of Aden

The US military reported the destruction of an anti-ship ballistic missile missile fired by Yemen's Houthis at ships in the Gulf of Aden.

The US Central Command statement said the missile was likely aimed at the US-flagged container ship MV Yorktown.

< p>The vessel was accompanied by a US Navy destroyer.

"It was acknowledged that… the missile poses a direct threat to American, coalition and merchant shipping in the region"– the command said, according to Voice of America.

The United States is leading coalition efforts to protect a key shipping route through the Gulf of Aden and the Red Sea from attacks by the Yemen-based Houthis, who are backed by Iran.
