White House Press Secretary Caroline Leavitt announced new cancellations of government funding. She said that $8 million in US taxpayer dollars was spent “on Politico subscriptions,” noting that its representatives were among others in the briefing room.

USAID will no longer fund media outlets, she said.

“This is a government initiative to examine every line item in the federal government's finances. The president and his team are assessing whether these expenditures serve the interests of the American people and whether they are a wise use of American taxpayer money. If not – funding will be stopped,” – she explained.
