Disney has been criticized in the United States for filming Mulan in Xinjiang, China. They ask the head of the company, Bob Chapek, to explain this interaction.

The corresponding demand was voiced by a bipartisan group of US senators. In their appeal, lawmakers want to understand on what basis Disney cooperated with the XUAR authorities, what happened during the filming of the historical film “Mulan”. In the credits at the end of the film, one can see words of gratitude addressed to the leading forces of Xinjiang. Senators admit that the company interacted with the security and propaganda services even though they carried out crimes or covered up.
There was also the question of whether Disney resorted to using “local labor” while in XUAR. The latter is often criticized by the United States against the background of human rights violations. This includes, among other things, the oppression of the Uyghurs, while in China the accusations of the American side are denied.
