Rep. Tom Emmer, in a letter to US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen, demanded clarification regarding sanctions imposed on the Tornado Cash Mixer.
I sent a letter to Treasury Secretary Yellen regarding the unprecedented sanctioning of Tornado Cash. The growing adoption of decentralized technology will certainly raise new challenges for OFAC. Nonetheless, technology is neutral and the expectation of privacy is normal.⬇️ pic.twitter.com/0aN4a4A6tb

“Growing adoption decentralized technologies will certainly pose new challenges for OFAC. However, the technology is neutral, and the expectation of privacy is also neutral,” the congressman wrote.
According to him, the mixer sanctions are unique in that they are not imposed on an individual or entity, but on a code that provides privacy .
“The backend will continue to function as an anonymization technology while the Ethereum network is running. Who or what organization does OFAC believe is responsible for introducing control over the Tornado Cash blockchain contracts?” Emmer asked.
Earlier, members of the Tornado DAO decentralized autonomous organization called on the community to hire a team lawyers to appeal the blocking of the service.
Later, the intention to challenge the restrictions imposed by the United States was announced by the crypto-industry-oriented human rights organization Coin Center.
Recall that Tom Emmer recently called the sanctions against Tornado Cash unprecedented and threatening privacy and innovation.
A similar opinion was expressed by Kraken CEO Jess Powell.
