The head of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen announced that she would visit Kyiv later on Wednesday to demonstrate the bloc's support for Ukraine , which resists the Russian invasion.

In her State of the Union address, Von der Leyen said the bloc would come to the aid of Ukraine by expanding the single market for Ukrainian products.

She said she will “discuss all this with President [Vladimir] Zelensky.”

“I stand here with the conviction that, with the necessary courage and solidarity, Putin will fail and Europe will win,” she said at the plenary session of the European Parliament in Strasbourg.
