The Turkish defense corporation Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI) conducted another successful test of the ANKA-3 unmanned aerial vehicle, created according to the “flying wing” scheme. The first ANKA-3 flight demonstration took place in December last year. Then the test flight lasted about 70 minutes and demonstrated the high aerodynamic characteristics of the drone. Its designs provide for the presence of stealth characteristics, which enables the use of hardware in areas with limited access and for covert operations in the territory.
Recent tests of the ANKA-3 have shown the effectiveness of the use of guided weapons. During the flight over the test site in the Konya-Karapinar region, the aircraft dropped a high-precision mini-bomb “Tolun” developed by the Turkish company Aselsan.
The bomb, equipped with a GPS/INS satellite inertial guidance system, has a range of more than 100 km after being dropped from 12 km high. Weighing in at 135kg, the Tolun uses technology to penetrate reinforced concrete structures up to 1m thick, making it ideal for destroying solid targets.
The tests were accompanied by an online broadcast watched by TAI engineers from its technology center in Istanbul .
