Universal Pictures finally leaves Russia
Universal Pictures has announced the final termination of its activities in Russia. This was reported by the telegram channel “Film Distributor's Bulletin”, citing a source.
The company's office in Russia will be closed. Universal Pictures reportedly sent a letter to several cinemas stating the parent company's decision to cease operations in Russia. The reason for this is the numerous difficulties faced by foreign companies.
In March, due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the film companies Disney, Warner Brothers and Sony suspended the distribution of their films in Russia.
On Friday, it also became known that the French company Thales, which produces hardware security modules for payment systems, is leaving Russia. The company protected customer data in 20 Russian banks. Thales has already stopped all operations to ensure their digital security.
The Russian armed invasion of Ukraine began on February 24 on the orders of President Vladimir Putin. He called the goals of the military operation “denazification” and “demilitarization” of Ukraine, but did not specify what exactly he had in mind. Because of the war, the United States and Western countries imposed tough sanctions on Moscow, which affected not only politicians and officials, but also ordinary citizens. Hundreds of corporations and brands have announced the suspension of business in Russia.
