“Ukrzaliznytsia” and UAnimals will update the rules for transporting animals in trains after the scandal

Rules for transporting animals/UAnimals

Ukrzaliznytsia together with the animal protection organization UAnimals will finalize the rules for transporting animals on trains. The reason for this decision was the recent scandal involving a serviceman and his dog.

It is planned to update some “outdated” points of the traffic rules to make them more inclusive for people with animals. And also to organize a social campaign to encourage others to treat passengers with animals “more humanely”. This is stated on the UAnimals page.

UAnimals turned to the representatives of Ukrzaliznytsia after the national guard Valery together with his service dog Ermi traveled in the vestibule of “Intercity” from Kyiv to Chernihiv.

“Ukrzaliznytsia” noted that according to the rules, it is not possible to transport animals taller than 45 centimeters at the withers in “Intercity”. The corresponding rule operates due to the lack of space in the passenger luggage compartment and the discomfort for the animals themselves.

Rules are there to be followed, but sometimes realities prompt us to revise them, UAnimals say.

The National Guard added that the serviceman voluntarily stood in the vestibule because he did not want to break the rules and did not have time to wait for a compartment car where you can travel with a Labrador.

We are organizing a social campaign to encourage passengers without animals to treat passengers with animals more humanely, – says the statement of UAnimals.

This story was published by passenger Daria Bronska, which is why society was upset because the national guard could not comfortably get to Chernihiv with his dog .
