Ukrenergo appealed to Ukrainians: what problems with light should be prepared for

Volodymyr Kudrytskyi, chairman of the board of the energy company, warned that the coming months will be difficult for the energy sector of Ukraine, as power cuts can occur at any moment. Citizens should get used to this reality.

Ukraine should prepare for possible power outages both in winter and in summer. Volodymyr Kudrytskyi, chairman of the board of NEC “Ukrenergo”, shared his thoughts with “Suspilny”.

Ukrainians should prepare

Kudrytsky noted that the situation in the energy system is quite difficult, and this will be especially felt in winter, when electricity consumption will increase. Next winter will bring new challenges.

This winter may not be easy because consumption naturally increases in winter. And even taking into account the plans for restoring generation that exist today, it is quite likely that it will not be possible to completely exclude the possibility of scheduled shutdowns,
– said Volodymyr Kudrytskyi.

The head of Ukrenergo also emphasized that the restoration of power plants damaged by Russian attacks during the war will take months and years. Therefore, we should not expect a rapid increase in electricity generation. We need to adapt to outages and new schedules.

These will not be blackouts, but controlled outages that we as an operator will implement to maintain system integrity. This needs to be understood,
– added Volodymyr Kudrytskyi.

It is worth noting that on May 21, it was reported that electricity tariffs in Ukraine will increase, as its current price does not cover the cost price. Victoria Hryb, head of the subcommittee on energy security, noted that a lot depends on the state of the energy system.
