Ukrainian to be tried for propagating communism through banned social network

The Frankivsk District Prosecutor's Office of Lviv submitted to the court an indictment against a 45-year-old resident of the city, who is accused of spreading and publicly using the symbols of the communist regime. His actions are qualified under Part 1 of Article 436-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

According to the investigation, during 2021 the accused actively used his page on the banned social network «Odnoklassniki» in Ukraine for the propaganda of communist ideology.

Among the materials he posted were:

  • Image of a hammer and sickle crossed in a five-pointed star against a red flag;
  • Portrait of the leader of the Communist Party, supplemented by its slogans.

The pre-trial investigation in this case was conducted by officers of Police Department No. 2 of the Lviv District Police Department with operational support from the SBU in Lviv regions.

Note: According to Art. 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in accordance with the established procedure.
