Maryna Stepanska, a well-known Ukrainian director and screenwriter, is again acting as co-screenwriter. This is the second joint work of the co-authors of the script after the development of the full-length feature film “Forever-Forever”.

Anna Buryachkova's new film will be based on the famous novel of the Ukrainian writer Ivan Bagryany “Tigrolovi”. In the early 1930s of the 20th century, the Ukrainian political prisoner Hryhoriy Mnogohryshnyi escapes from the death train that is taking convicts to Kolyma, right in the middle of the taiga. Grigory turns from a hunted beast into a tiger hunter. He falls in love with a hunting girl whom he saved from an angry bear, but the regime does not leave him alone.

Making a film based on this novel, written in the darkest time of the 20th century, in 1944, seems like an urgent task today, because almost a century later we are facing the same threat: Russia's attempt to once again absorb our identity, our land and our history. The hero of “Tiger Hunters” (a rare case in Ukrainian literature) is a victim who refuses to be a victim, his character is so salubrious that he is able to overcome extreme circumstances and turn history back to his own. Many historical events, complex and painful, eventually end up on the periphery of attention – it is easier to let go and hide this extreme experience behind certain words and definitions. This applies both to the Holodomor, the aggressive policy of Russia and the Soviet Union towards Ukraine, and the torture and execution of specific Ukrainians for decades. And we often talk about and remember the dead, surrounding their image with a halo of sacrifice, but we forget about those who fought and survived, the authors of the film comment.

The main character of the film is a character

strong> who does not give up, who seeks freedom above all else, who can survive at the limits of human strength, and who, even when exhausted, does not lose his humanity and is ready to save another person, even at the cost of his life.
