Ukrainian artist Serhii Maidukov won the World Illustration Awards 2024 international competition. The artist won the Highly Commended Book Cover award for the cover of the book “Russian Colonialism” by Ukrainian journalist Maksym Eristavi.

The competition jury appreciated the artist's deliberately primitive drawings in black oil pencil on the cover and inside the book.

Book “Russian Colonialism, 101”is a kind of guidebook that tells about the history of Russian colonial invasions and crimes. The beginning of the book was given by Maxim Eristava's thread on the social network X (formerly Twitter), where he talked about the wars waged by Russia over the past hundred years. The publication contains facts about the last 48 examples of Russian colonialism, which are accompanied by illustrations by Ukrainian artists.

World Illustration Awards is an annual international competition run by the Association of Illustrators (AOI ), the purpose of which is to celebrate the best illustrations from around the world.
