Kh-32 — it is a deep modernization of the Kh-22 air-to-ground missile, the development of which was carried out since the end of the 80s by the Raduga design bureau.

After the collapse of the USSR, work was stopped several times. The development was resumed in the mid-90s and tested in 1998.

Furthermore, there were no funds for the modernization of the planned Tu-22M3 carrier aircraft. Tests continued only in 2008, when the Tu-22M3 was converted.

Tests of the aircraft with missiles took place at the end of July 2013. Missiles were also launched during the flight.

At the end of 2016, the X-32 missile was officially put into service and 30 Tu-22M3 aircraft were planned to be upgraded to Tu-22M3M.

The new missile the same body as the Kh-22, but a more powerful engine appeared. Thanks to the reduction of the warhead, the fuel tanks were increased.

In addition, the deep modernization of the missile received new protection against obstacles. It is a protected radar-inertial guidance system with radio command correction and binding to the terrain.

X-32 flight speed is Mach 3.5-4.6, the range — thanks to increased tanks 600-1000 km.
