Ukraine began using “killer robots” on the battlefield

Ukraine is actively integrating the latest technologies into the field of defense, in particular autonomous attack drones, known as “killer robots”. According to The Wall Street Journal, these drones are equipped with advanced systems that allow them to autonomously perform combat missions, avoiding obstacles and electronic warfare (EW).

The Russians mainly counter Ukrainian drones with EW that jam the signal between the drone and the operator. As the pilots indicate, because of this, on average, only every fifth drone hits the target. However, the autopilot technology in drones is changing this situation.

The basis of the innovation is the Skynode system developed by the American company Auterion. This is a compact computer of small size, which acts as a flight controller. Its key capabilities are:

  • Autonomous flight: the drone can perform tasks without direct operator control.
  • Resistance to GPS jammers: this is helped by the technology of “computer vision”.
  • Swarm operation: the system allows to coordinate the simultaneous flight of several drones.

These minicomputers are integrated into drones produced by Ukrainian companies, which makes them an effective and inexpensive solution for combat missions. Ukraine has already ordered tens of thousands of such systems. Other manufacturers are also testing similar autopilot technologies, preparing to expand their use on an industrial scale.

Thanks to this, Ukraine will not only effectively destroy the Russians, but also reduce costs, because attack drones are cheaper than missiles or artillery shells. .
