President Zelensky said that «the toughest» military situation
Ukrainian authorities have reported heavy strikes in the area of Severodonetsk, where Russian troops are trying to take full control of the city.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said in his nightly address that the military situation in Luhansk region is now “the toughest.”
“The invaders are also putting serious pressure on the Donetsk direction,” he added.
According to him, Russia has stepped up efforts to oust Ukrainian troops from key regions.
A representative of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine said at a daily briefing that fierce battles were taking place in Severodonetsk, Russia was inflicting air strikes and shelling Ukrainian positions with artillery.
Head of the Lugansk region Serhiy Gaidai told the Associated Press, “It's hell out here. Everything is on fire. The shelling does not stop even for an hour.”
“Today, everything that can burn is on fire,” Gaidai said. He reported fierce fighting at the Severodonetsk Azot chemical plant, where Ukrainian fighters and about 500 civilians are hiding.
According to the Associated Press, Russian troops control about 95 percent of the Luhansk region, while Ukrainian forces hold only the Azot chemical plant.
Gaidai also said that Russian troops had inflicted “catastrophic destruction” on Lisichansk, an industrial city separated from Severodonetsk only by a river.
