European Commission will recommend the status of a candidate for EU membership of Ukraine and Moldova, putting forward additional requirements for the latter, and Georgia – will refuse.
According to the Dutch publication NOS, citing a "reliable source", in its conclusion, the European Commission will recommend Ukraine the status of a candidate, but with conditions for starting accession negotiations – in particular, on ensuring the rule of law and fighting corruption.
“This intermediate step seems to be a nod to countries like the Netherlands, which believe that Ukraine is far from ready for the status of a candidate for membership” , – notes the publication.
At the same time, granting Ukraine the status of a candidate for EU membership – this is the political signal that most member states want to send to Kyiv, adds NOS.
Candidate status will also be recommended for Moldova, but there will be even more demands placed on it to start accession negotiations.
As for Georgia, the European Commission will recommend not granting such a status to the country until the “long list of requirements” is met.
