UK detects Russian spy ship in English Channel

UK Defence Minister John Healy said that the Russian spy ship Yantar was detected in the English Channel by the Royal Navy. According to the minister, the ship was spotted in the North Sea. He also noted that this is the second time this Russian ship has entered British waters. The first time was in November 2024.

According to the minister, Yantar is used to collect intelligence and map the UK's underwater infrastructure. It entered the UK's exclusive economic zone about 45 miles off the coast on January 20. The Royal Navy has since deployed ships to monitor the Amber.

Recall that around 65 oil tankers around the world have dropped anchor since the US announced new sanctions on January 10.
