Typhoon Camie made landfall in southeastern China's Fujian province after it crossed Taiwan and brought heavy rains to the Philippines.

China's CCTV reported that Camie made landfall on Thursday and is expected to bring heavy rain to large parts of the country as it moves northwest, Voice of America reported. State news agency Xinhua reported that Chinese authorities have evacuated more than 150,000 residents in the province ahead of the storm.

Taiwan officials said businesses and schools remained closed across much of the northern island for a second day. At least three people were killed and hundreds injured as the storm flooded streets and caused widespread power outages across the island. In the port city of Kaohsiung, parts of the city were under a metre of water.

Taiwan's Oceanic Affairs Council said five cargo ships had been forced off the island by the storm, with one of them sinking. It said the vessel was a Tanzanian-flagged vessel with nine Myanmar nationals on board. Search and rescue efforts are underway.

While the storm did not make landfall in the Philippines, authorities said it intensified seasonal monsoon rains, causing flooding and landslides that killed 22 people.

The Philippine Coast Guard said authorities were trying to contain an oil spill after the tanker MT Terra Nova sank in rough seas. Authorities confirmed that 16 of the vessel's 17 crew members had been rescued.
