Two Russian citizens are accused of preparing sabotage in Germany

The German Federal Prosecutor's Office has filed charges against two citizens Russia in the preparation of sabotage. It is alleged that they were in contact with Russian intelligence services. The targets of the attacks could be military facilities of the US Army, military and industrial enterprises, Radio Liberty reports.

Suspect Dieter S. (full names are not disclosed until the court verdict in Germany, — “RS”) is charged with preparing an explosion and arson, agent activity for the purpose of sabotage and filming military facilities. He was allegedly in contact with a person associated with the Russian intelligence service. The sabotage was supposed to lead to the undermining of military assistance to Ukraine provided by Germany, the prosecutor's office said in a statement received by Radio Liberty.

The suspect is alleged to have been discussing with Russian intelligence services the preparation of explosions and fires at military and defense-industrial facilities in Germany since October 2023. To prepare these explosions, he collected information about potential targets, which included US Army installations. Dieter S. forwarded photographs and video materials to his Russian contact.

The second suspect, Alexander J., had been helping the first since March 2024. Both suspects, in addition to Russian, also have German citizenship.

Dieter S. has already been arrested. In addition to preparing sabotage, he is also accused of participating in hostilities in eastern Ukraine as part of the armed forces of Donetsk separatists between December 2014 and September 2016 — this is qualified as participation in terrorist activities. Alexander J. will appear in court later today.

Police detained the suspects in the city of Bayreuth in Bavaria. Searches were also carried out in the apartments and places of work of those arrested.
