Law enforcement officers in the Odessa region have reported suspicions to two men who are believed to be involved in separate incidents of arson in the Saf’yanivska community and Izmail. Both cases are being investigated under Part 2 of Article 194 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, which provides for a penalty of up to ten years in prison.
At the end of October, a BMW car burned down in one of the villages of the Saf’yanivska community. According to the investigation, a 25-year-old local resident allegedly set fire to the car to take revenge on a friend. Police claim that the owner of the car – a resident of Odessa – insulted the friend during a conflict in a local cafe. The owner of the vehicle suffered damages in the amount of almost 700 thousand hryvnias. The second incident occurred last week in the city of Izmail. Investigators have established that a 38-year-old local resident was involved in setting fire to the post office window.
The man, according to the police, carried out the arson on an order received from a stranger via the Internet. He received the order while looking for “easy money”. The amount of damage caused to the enterprise is still being determined.
The issue of choosing a preventive measure for the suspect is currently being resolved.
