Turkish developers will build an advanced aircraft carrier that can accommodate 50 fighter jets

Turkey presented the project of the new national aircraft carrier MUGEM, with a displacement of 60,000 tons, at the SAHA EXPO 2024 exhibition in Istanbul. The ship should become the largest in the country's navy, informs Military.

MUGEM, 285 meters long, will be able to develop a maximum speed of 25 knots and cover up to 10,000 nautical miles ( 18,520 kilometers — ed.), which allows him to participate in regional and global missions. The aircraft carrier is capable of placing up to 50 aerial platforms, including drones and heavy UAVs, on board. Of these, 30 aircraft can be stored in the hangar, and another 20— on the flight deck. If necessary, this number can be increased.

The newest aircraft carrier is significantly superior to its predecessor. We are talking about the landing ship Anadolu, which was commissioned in 2023. The President of Turkey already then announced plans to build a second aircraft carrier, which will be twice the size of Anadolu, which was embodied in the MUGEM project. This new ship will be a demonstration of Turkey's ambitions in strengthening its naval fleet and strengthening its regional role.
