The radius of action of the new SAM system is only 25 km, and the maximum interception altitude exceeds 15 km. And although the Turkish system is clearly inferior to the Patriot or S-400 complexes, it has greater mobility and ease of logistical deployment.
On Sunday, January 19, Turkey announced the completion of qualification tests of the HİSAR-O air and missile defense system, developed by ASELSAN and ROKETSAN. This event was an important step towards the serial production of the complex, which is designed to strengthen the capabilities of the Turkish air defense and increase the level of the country's defense capability. This was reported by the Army Recognition portal.
The Turkish Ministry of Defense noted that the HİSAR-O air defense system demonstrated high accuracy when intercepting targets at long distances and altitudes, which confirms the technological maturity of the system and the efficiency of national production processes.
Features of the HİSAR-O complex
HİSAR-O is a medium-range air defense system designed to counter a wide range of threats, including aircraft, helicopters, drones, cruise missiles and air-to-ground munitions.
The system has a range of 25 km, and the maximum interception altitude exceeds 15 km. The system is equipped with radar and infrared-guided missiles, which allows it to effectively respond to modern threats.
The system is built on a modular architecture, includes a fire control center, radar, three launchers and transport and loading equipment. It provides comprehensive 360° protection thanks to vertical missile launch, which significantly increases flexibility in combat conditions. HİSAR-O supports control via wired and wireless communication channels, as well as integration with tactical data networks, which makes it compatible with modern troop control systems.
Experts note that although HİSAR-O is inferior in range to the American Patriot or the Russian S-400, it has greater mobility and ease of logistical deployment due to the use of a Mercedes-Benz 6×6 truck chassis. This versatility makes the system more suitable for the tactical and operational tasks facing the Turkish Armed Forces.
Technical characteristics of the HİSAR-O system
- target interception range: up to 25 km;
- maximum attack height: over 15 km;
- guidance: radar and infrared;
- system architecture: modular with vertical launch capability;
- mobility: Mercedes-Benz chassis 6×6, providing high tactical flexibility;
- integration: support for Link 1 and 11B tactical data channels, open architecture for adding future technologies.
“The transition to mass production of HİSAR-O demonstrates Turkey's ability to independently develop and produce advanced defense systems,” — the observers concluded.
