It is expected that 2nm chips will be installed in the iPhone 18.
TSMC has begun trial production of chips using 2nm technology. According to a report published on the MoneyDJ platform, TSMC's production capacity is currently limited, but it will be significantly expanded in the coming years.
Currently, the company's factory in Hsinchu, Taiwan, has begun small-scale production of 2nm chips. It is planned that by the end of 2026, the monthly productivity of this factory will be from 12 to 13 thousand chips. In 2025, the capacity is expected to increase to 5 thousand chips per month, and by 2026, the indicators will reach 60 thousand chips per month at two TSMC factories.
The main customer for the first chips with the new technology is expected to be Apple. The new A20 processor, manufactured using the 2nm process, may appear in the iPhone 18. The WMCM technology that will be used in this chip involves the use of multi-chip modules, which will improve performance and energy efficiency. In addition to Apple, other technology giants such as MediaTek, Qualcomm, Intel, NVIDIA, AMD and Broadcom also plan to use the new chips in their products.
