The judge presiding over former President Donald Trump's criminal trial for falsifying documents in connection with election interference has set the trial's start date for April 15, rejecting his request to delay it further .

The trial, which falls under the jurisdiction of New York State, was originally scheduled to begin March 25, but was postponed until earlier in mid-April due to documents recently provided by federal prosecutors at the request of Mr. Trump's lawyers.

Judge Juan Merchan refused to give the accused more time.

After the hearing, Donald Trump said he would appeal the decision, calling the lawsuit initiated by prosecutor Alvin Bragg election interference.

The former tenant of the White House, who is running for the presidency again, faces 34 counts of falsification of documents following his indictment by a New York grand jury in March 2023.< /p>

The charges relate to sums allegedly reimbursed by Donald Trump to his former personal lawyer, Michael Cohen, in connection with election interference. Mr. Trump's former confidant admitted buying the silence of an alleged former mistress of Donald Trump, pornographic actress Stormy Daniels, to maximize his client's chances of ;be elected.

In another case, the appellate division of a New York civil court reduced the bail imposed to the businessman, taking it from more than 450 million US dollars, including interest, to 175 million.

More details will follow.
