Donald Trump praised Zelensky's handling of the impeachment attempt before his meeting with Volodymyr Zelensky.
During the leaders' brief press briefing before the meeting, Trump was asked what his expectations were.
In his response, he recalled that "Ukraine is going through hell" and it's a “terrible situation,” and went on to praise Zelensky for the way he handled the effort to impeach Donald Trump for allegedly pressuring Ukraine over military aid shortly after Zelensky became president.

And those impeachment hawks had to back down right away. He could have started saying that he 'didn't know' or 'wasn't sure.' But he was… like steel, he said, 'President Trump did nothing wrong,'” Trump said.
He went on to say that he and Zelensky have a “very good relationship.” and immediately said the same about relations with Russian ruler Vladimir Putin and declared that he sees an opportunity to quickly agree on ending the war.
