Trump hinted that he sees no reason to abandon the TikTok social network

US President-elect Donald Trump hinted that he sees no reason to abandon the TikTok platform, as he sees it as an influential tool for disseminating information.

As “European Truth” writes, he published a post about this on his X (Twitter) account, where posts from Trump's own social network Truth Social, which is his main one, are duplicated.

Donald Trump has published a table of results of his content on TikTok as of early January 2025. It shows that the content has received tens of billions of views, and that his accounts in terms of combined content are many times ahead of the content of his election rival Kamala Harris, and pop stars such as Taylor Swift and Beyoncé.

“Why should I consider giving up TikTok?”, – the president-elect commented rhetorically.

As a reminder, for more than one year, discussions have been taking place in Western countries about the need for close attention to the TikTok application, even to the point of banning it, due to questions about its algorithms and ties to China, where businesses can secretly work in the interests of the government. Despite this, many top politicians – or their communications teams – continue to use the platform to promote their content.

This attention has especially intensified after the scandalous first round of the presidential election in Romania, where the victory of a previously little-known far-right candidate was largely ensured by a successful campaign on TikTok. Romania's Constitutional Court, in an unprecedented move, annulled the results and ordered a restart of the electoral process, while the European Commission opened formal proceedings against TikTok.
