The Financial Times newspaper has named US President-elect Donald Trump “man of the year”. His return to the White House has been called “the most dramatic comeback in modern US history”.

The newspaper indicates that it had already recognized Trump as “man of the year” in 2016. However, now he has been chosen “because of the extraordinary nature of his return to power”. It is emphasized that Trump “can no longer be dismissed as a fluke.”

Journalists point out that in the US, Trump promises an era of complete deregulation and tax cuts. His presidency “presages a profound shift” to the right for America, writes the FT. In turn, Trump's return to the White House could be a “generational opportunity” for China, Russia, Iran and North Korea, though it remains unpredictable. 

“We are living in the age of Trump. Historians will look at 2024 as a turning point, like the 1932 [election] when Roosevelt came in with the New Deal, or the 1968 election when Richard Nixon launched the New Right,” — says Roger Stone, a longtime political and business associate of Trump.
