Trudeau announces funeral ;status for Ed Broadbent

Former NDP leader Ed Broadbent, who died on January 11, will have a state funeral, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced Monday.

The funeral will be held in Ottawa on January 28.

This state funeral will provide us with the opportunity to pay tribute to his incredible legacy, which will undoubtedly remain a source of inspiration for generations of Canadians.

Academician and politician, Ed Broadbent worked in the House of Commons for almost 24 years, recalls the Prime Minister's Office.

Born in 1936 in Oshawa, the son of a GM factory worker in this small Ontario town, Ed Broadbent completed a master's degree in legal philosophy at the London School of Economics and obtained a doctorate in political science from the University of Toronto.
