How to protect yourself
Criminals call older people claiming to be the police.
The y warn of an allegedly imminent crime (e.g. a burglar in the neighborhood or corrupt bank employees) and allegedly want to bring large sums of money, jewelry or gold of the victims to safety. Danger! Telephone numbers that seem to belong to the police can also be shown on the display.
The police advise:
► Make a note of the displayed number, hang up and then dial “110” yourself! ► Do not keep any valuables or large amounts of money at home! ► Do not hand over any valuables to strangers! ►
The police will never ask you over the phone to provide information about your property or valuables! ► Invite people you trust (e.g. neighbors, caretakers) – even if the caller wants to oblige you to maintain confidentiality! ► Have the police officers arriving (especially in plain clothes) show you the ID cards!
