Transformers go into battle: the British army was offered a new version of a light protected patrol car

The British subsidiary of General Dynamics UK has introduced a new version of its Foxhound light protected patrol vehicle (LPPV), which was named the Foxhound General Multi-Role Vehicle (GMRV).

As the representatives of the manufacturer boasted, not without advertising bragging, in a release on their official portal, thanks to its modular design, the Foxhound is the best vehicle for light infantry and special operations forces when performing combat missions. The vehicle provides a high level of proven protection, reliability and availability, as well as adaptability, reports ArmyInform.

This project is under development. And as informed by the company General Dynamics Land Systems — Great Britain, which has been operating since 2012, its enterprises previously supplied the British Army with 400 basic Foxhound models (also known under the global brand General Dynamics Land Systems — "Ocelot"). The reporters of our editorial office mentioned these armored vehicles in one of the reviews of the defense industry.

The Foxhound GMRV is designed to operate in the most challenging environments, demonstrating a combination of protection, mobility and flexibility. Experts from the defense publication Army Recognition, who got acquainted with the new armored vehicle at the Defense Vehicle Dynamics (DVD) weapons exhibition held in Millbrook, UK in September this year, said that its modular design offers a significant advantage, allowing the vehicle to adapt to different mission requirements.

The platform can be configured for multiple roles with the help of a newly developed mission module that provides, according to the vehicle's developers, “unsurpassed operational efficiency”.

The GMRV variant includes a highly protected crew compartment with advanced a self-defense weapon that can be controlled directly from the inside, ensuring optimal security crew.

Additionally, the vehicle's design has been shaped to accommodate a NATO-standard pallet in the rear, offering endless transformative possibilities for integrating complex mission systems. These could include Short-Range Air Defense (SHORAD) weapons and other critical technologies beyond the scope of a traditional patrol vehicle.

By improving protection and firepower while retaining the core capabilities of the original Foxhound, the GMRV is set to be a game changer for military operations. General Dynamics UK is looking to deploy this new option both for the British Army and for international allies, focusing on export opportunities for partners worldwide.

The vehicle is fully designed, engineered and manufactured in&nbsp To the United Kingdom, ensuring quality control and compliance with the national defense and industrial strategy.

The original Foxhound LPPV has long been renowned for its protection and mobility in high risk conditions. This new variant of the GMRV inherits this legacy, but with significant improvements in operational flexibility and modular integration. Ability to smoothly switch between roles — from patrolling to air defense — without the need for a completely different vehicle underlines its value on the modern battlefield.

As militaries around the world face increasingly complex operational landscapes, the Foxhound GMRV is poised to offer a solution that can evolve with&nbsp these changing requirements. With design and manufacturing firmly rooted in the UK, the vehicle is also a testament to its defense capability and commitment to innovation.

According to a announcement from General Dynamics Land Systems — UK, a total of 52 new GMRV vehicles will be delivered to UK Army units by March 2025.
