With rising temperatures in summer, Ukrainians are increasingly facing problems in using generators . Although these devices have become an integral part of daily life during frequent power outages, operation of generators in the hot season requires special attention.
About common problems during operation of generators in summer and how to avoid them, in an interview with RBC -Ukraine is told by the director of the Autogroup and Tools department of the “Epicenter K” shopping center chain. Olga Yushchenko.
Generator overheating: the main challenge of the hot summer
One of the biggest problems faced by generator users in the summer is overheating. At high ambient temperatures, generators can overheat, which leads to a decrease in their efficiency, and in the worst case – to a complete failure.
“The main difference in the operation of generators in different seasons is precisely the risk of overheating in the summer,” the expert explains. To avoid this problem, it is important to install the generator in a place with good air circulation. It must be protected from direct sunlight, as well as from precipitation, which can damage the device or make it difficult to operate.
Danger of improper protection and exploitation
Another common mistake is to cover the generator to reduce noise or protect it from dust and rain. “I often see that people even make special noise protection boxes for the generator. This is very dangerous,” warns Olga Yushchenko. The cover of the generator completely blocks the removal of exhaust gases, which can lead to overheating, reduced power or even breakdown.
In addition, during prolonged use of the generator, it is necessary to take regular breaks. “After every 4-5 hours of operation, the generator should be given an hour break for cooling,” the expert notes. }” paraid=”463369463″ xml:lang=”RU-RU”>Before starting again, you need to check the level of lubricant and fuel, and if necessary, add them. However, due to long blackouts, people often ignore these rules, which leads to generator breakdowns.
Recommendations for the safe use of generators
To avoid problems with the generator in the hot season, experts advise to follow a few simple but important rules:
Correct placement of the generator. The generator must be installed on a flat surface in a place with good ventilation, protected from direct sunlight and precipitation.
Avoiding overheating. Do not cover the generator, do not use sound insulation boxes that block the ventilation. Provide sufficient space around the generator for free air circulation.
Regular breaks in work. After every 4-5 hours of operation of the generator, give it time to cool down. Check the oil and fuel levels before restarting.
Observance of operating instructions. Before starting work, carefully read the operating instructions of the generator and follow all the recommendations of the manufacturer.
Consequences of non-compliance with operating rules
Ignoring the rules of operation can lead to serious problems with the generator. The expert notes that service centers often receive damaged generators due to non-compliance with basic recommendations.
In most cases, breakdowns could be avoided if users paid more attention to the conditions of operation and maintenance of their devices.
