Time named Donald Trump Person of the Year

Time magazine has named Donald Trump its person of the year.

This is reported on the Time website.

«Trump's political transformation is unparalleled in American history. His first term ended in disgrace, and his attempts to overturn the 2020 election results culminated in an attack on the U.S. Capitol. Most party officials shunned him when he announced his candidacy in late 2022 amid multiple criminal investigations, the magazine writes.

The article notes that the trial against Trump did little to weaken his support during the US presidential election. Instead, the Republican candidate survived an attempt to shoot him and later “defeated not one but two Democratic opponents, swept all seven states and became the first Republican to win the general vote in 20 years”.

In addition to the newly elected US president, the “person of the year” also nominated his ally and businessman Elon Musk, Trump opponent Kamala Harris, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and others. Also on the list was the wife of the deceased Russian activist Navalny – Yulia Navalny.
