Tiger Woods five shots behind point guard in first round at Memorial

(Los Angeles) Tiger Woods, who made his comeback to the PGA Tour on Thursday after a five-month hiatus, finished five shots behind point guard Tony Finau in the first round of the Memorial Tournament in Dublin, Ohio .

Woods, who won last year’s Masters at Augusta – his 15 th Major – made four birdies, including a 14-foot to 18 th hole on the course of Muirfield Village.

“I felt good, I was a little rusty, but overall I felt it was a good start,” said the American.

Woods, 44, hadn’t played since the Genesis Invitation he himself hosted in February in Los Angeles, shortly before the PGA decided to freeze his tour due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Looking for a 83 th title record, Woods missed four tournaments played since the resumption Covid post-19.

The leader Tony Finau has in turn chained three consecutive birdies to 9 th , 10 th and 11 th hole, before finishing with birdies on 17 th and 18 th to finish one shot ahead of Ryan Palmer.
