Three sons of a Russian priest decided to fight for Ukraine

The Western District Military Court of the Russian Federation sent three sons of a Lipetsk priest to prison for 17 years for high treason. The brothers were going to fight for Ukraine.

Deutsche Welle reports this, citing the Russian publication Mediazona.

We are talking about the sons of the priest Igor Ashcheulov. They wanted to join the “Freedom of Russia” legion.

“John was sentenced to 17.5 years in a maximum security colony, Alexey and Timofey – to 17,” the court decision says.

Among the charges:

• attempted high treason;
• attempted unlawful crossing the state border;
• participation in the activities of a “terrorist organization.”

The publication notes that the Russians will spend the first three years in prison, the remaining term in a maximum security colony .

As reported by the media, in his last word, Ioann Ashcheulov noted that there was nothing in his actions that “would fall under the definition of terrorism,” and any term that would be given to him is “” nothing” against the backdrop of the number of dead Ukrainian citizens.
