Three more F-16s purchased in Norway arrive in Romania

Three more F-16s purchased by the country in Norway arrived at the General Emanuel Ionescu airbase in central Romania on Friday, December 13.

According to “European Truth”, this was reported by the Romanian Ministry of National Defense.

The new F-16s will be adopted by the 48th Fighter Squadron of the Air Force Romania.

“The acquisition of a new batch of F-16 Fighting Falcon aircraft and the associated package of goods and services will enhance Romania's security by protecting the country's/NATO airspace in peacetime and in crisis situations,” – the message says.

Currently, the 48th Fighter Squadron has a total of 15 F-16 aircraft purchased from Norway along with a corresponding package of goods and services.

The Romanian government signed a contract with the Norwegian government in 2023 for the purchase of 32 F-16 aircraft along with initial logistical support and an additional package of goods and services from the United States.

Romania also purchased 18 F-16s from the Netherlands, the last aircraft arriving in the country at the end of November.
