Three F-16s from the Norwegian Air Force arrived in Romania

Three F-16 multipurpose fighters purchased from the fleet of the Royal Norwegian Air Force have arrived in Romania.

The Ministry of Defense of Romania informed about this.

The planes landed at the «General Emanuel Ionescu» on Friday, December 13, and will be part of the 48th fighter squadron.

In total, the Romanian Air Force already has 15 F-16 fighters, previously operated in Norway.

We remind you that by agreement between the Norwegian and Romanian governments, the latter bought 32 ships.

The fighters are handed over in a ready-to-use state, and their resource allows active operation for at least 10 years.

F-16 should be in service before the transition to the latest multi-role fighters of the 5th generation F-35A, the contract for the purchase of which was signed on November 21. Its estimated value is estimated  in 7.2 billion US dollars.

In total, the Romanian government confirmed its intention to purchase 32 aircraft. The introduction of the F-35A into service should be gradual, along with the withdrawal of the F-16.
