The police made the arrests last Saturday. The five suspects, who all live in Montreal, were questioned before being released.

Additional charges could be filed, warns the SPVG.

The police also transmitted some details on the circumstances surrounding the arrests in the early morning hours of January 6. It was a citizen who informed the police of the unusual presence of sport utility vehicles parked on rue de Fréjus.

The intervention of patrol officers made it possible to recover three stolen vehicles.

In recent years, the SPVG has publicized many stories of vehicle thefts. According to statistics from the Insurance Bureau of Canada, the city saw its number of stolen automobiles increase from 154 to 296 between 2020 and 2022.

Faced with these numerous cases of stolen vehicles, the police wanted to remind citizens of certain behaviors to adopt, such as reporting any suspicious activity in their neighborhood or parking their vehicle in a lit area under video surveillance.

This has the effect of potentially deterring criminals or providing important investigative information in the event of theft.
