First incidents in Bilbao. Several thousand young people gathered since noon this Saturday in the area of Licenciado Poza street, in Bilbao, in the vicinity of the San Mamés stadium , in the hours before the final of the Cup between Athletic and Real Sociedad in the Cartuja of Seville. What started as a massive party led to serious confrontations with the Ertzaintza in the middle of the afternoon, around five o'clock.
The Basque police entered the central street of poteo to try to get people to withdraw and maintain the measures established by the health authorities, when a group of fifty received them with the launch of bottles and flares. The Ertzaintza charged repeatedly after bypassing two burning garbage containers and removing the glass from a container that had been overturned. A girl had to be transferred to the Basurto Hospital after being hit by a bottle during the incidents, as confirmed by the Ertzaintza, which has also just confirmed that several people have been identified and punished for non-compliance with health regulations. The Basque Government has been asking the fans of both clubs for days to experience this historic sporting event "at home", in its bubbles, since the Basque Country has been experiencing a clear rebound in the pandemic for weeks. Bilbao registers an incidence of 258 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, which is a very high risk according to the values established by the WHO. In addition, this Saturday the positivity has approached 10% in the Basque Country, almost double what the World Health Organization considers that the pandemic is out of control. Already in the farewells of the clubs there were breaches of health regulations, both on Thursday with Athletic in Lezama and on Friday with Real Sociedad in Zubieta.
Although the agglomeration of people this Saturday was considerable, around 5,000 people, According to municipal sources, only fifty fans participated in the burning of containers. The rest withdrew without resistance. After the incidents, the situation was once again a massive party in the Licenciado Poza area, in which gangs, groups of young people and families with children were mixed. Many of them without masks in a celebration that ended up becoming a big bottle.
The mayor of Bilbao, Juan María Aburto has criticized the performance of these young people on social networks: “Some madmen mounting incidents before the final. And the families that today suffer from Covid or from not being able to enjoy this historic day? You do not represent the values of our Athletic or of our city. Please, a bit of sanity and let us enjoy in peace ”. The club president himself, Aitor Elizegi, has asked the fans for responsibility during an interview with the special program that the club broadcasts from Seville.
In San Sebastián, the streets of the old town also became a large bottle but, no incidents were recorded so far. Many people were still meeting drinking and celebrating with Real Sociedad shirts, although to a lesser extent than in Bilbao.
