As the “Super Express” portal reminds us, January 14th marks the 6th anniversary of the death of Paweł Adamowicz. The mayor of Gdańsk was brutally attacked during the 27th Grand Finale of the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity. Although the politician was taken to hospital, his life could not be saved. His remains were laid to rest in the St. Mary's Basilica in Gdańsk. This is what his resting place looks like today.

Anniversary of the death of Paweł Adamowicz

Paweł Adamowicz was attacked by Stefan W. in front of hundreds of people participating in the 27th finale of the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity, who had gathered in Gdańsk to see the traditional “light to heaven”.

W. unstoppable, he entered the stage, attacking Adamowicz with a knife. The politician was taken to hospital, but despite the efforts of doctors, his life could not be saved. Adamowicz died in hospital on January 14.

His funeral took place a few days later. To honor Paweł Adamowicz, it was decided to bury him in the St. Mary's Basilica in Gdańsk. The funeral mass was led by Bishop Stanisław Gądecki.

Paweł Adamowicz's moving farewell

During the last Paweł Adamowicz's closest relatives also spoke at his farewell. The wife of the murdered mayor of Gdańsk emphasized that her husband “taught openness, love, empathy”. She also added that he was a “wonderful husband and a wonderful father”.

“I love you very much and I know that neither I nor anyone gathered here will forget you. Take care of us and all of Gdańsk up there in heaven” – said Adamowicz's daughter.

The fact that the memory of Paweł Adamowicz and what happened to him is alive is evidenced by the view of the place of the tragedy and the place of his burial, where there may be fresh flowers.
